2012 Dugout

It's Opening Day! See our actual 2012 Draft and trades on the Draft Page.

We'll shoot straight in the FBC Dugout. In fact.. it could get a bit raucous in here during the season. We'll link the Dugout Chatter into a discussion format the first full week of spring training. Until then.. feel welcome to post your comments below.. but keep 'em clean. We'll respond to as many as we can.

Let's let the writers publish their 250-300 Player Rankings for 2012.. and we'll use those to carve them up strategically. The Athlon composite list is useful. Check it out. Otherwise, I'd love to draft against some one using the lists I've seen so far. Our 2012 Draft Guide will give you our expertise and choices.. in each round.. over a 24 round draft. One insight for 2012: There are two or three positions that you can delay your picks for as many as 8-10 rounds.. and still get great probability of significant production.

In 2012, this is where we're looking.. and what we're thinking. I believe we can get an 18-20 game Cy Young winner in the 3rd-5th round.. and another CY candidate in round 8 or 9. We should get 30HR-100RBI in the 4th-5th round.. and shoot for a ROY candidate in the 15th-18th.. with a come back player of the year entry in the 10th. Much of this depends on which ML players make the adjustments.. and display their off-season conditioning.

More on our draft history and results. In 2011.. we had the AL HR leader in the 3rd round.. the runner-up in the NL 1st round. We also had an inordinate run of injuries the first half of the season. It was as if the team bus drove over a cliff. You can read about our experience on the 2011 Season page.

In 2010, we had the AL MVP.. the NL MVP and the AL Cy Young winner.. on one team. Our first three picks were Josh Hamilton, Joey Votto and Felix Hernandez. Our best year was the 2008 Jack Hammers.. when we finished 16.5 games ahead of the 2nd place team in the regular season.. and our top 8 players hit an average of 27.25 HRs. Big fun. Let's repeat that in 2012.

Over the course of a 162 game season.. there are always surprises. In 2012.. we'll give you our best scouting analysis to produce high performance value deep in the draft.. and through out the season.

Good Luck in 2012!

  1. I'm looking at one of the "draft software" packages. These systems can not escape historical parameters..i.e. projects two catchers on the same team.. getting a total of 450 ABS combined. Who gets the other 100+ ABs?

  2. Same package says that no Phillies player will score 90 runs? ;)

  4. One of the key factors that has helped me succeed in fantasy sports is getting a heads up on a not to known rookie ready to explode. Or a player getting ready to come off the DL. Getting good middle relievers is huge and can be more valuable than a closer if you use holds as a category. This site looks like its setup for updated valuable information to give you a jump on your competitors. Information is key to winning. Good luck to everyone.
